We Bought A What??!

When Ryan quit 3M over a year ago now, we had hopes of finding a fun little fixer upper, either to flip or a cabin on a lake to rent out.  We thought we would have one within a couple of months and it would be his "work site" that was away from home but still had the flexibility to be home whenever needed.  Well, we soon realized that although it was our plan, it wasn't the Lords.  After watching the MLS listing site actively, visiting multiple cabins, and even putting an offer in on one cabin only to get outbid by $50k, we got the hint that now might not be the best time to invest in real estate.  And quite honestly, looking back, I can see God's hand in all of it because we needed the year to work on "us" and to figure a few things out....more of that to come in the blog tomorrow:)

So, what is the adventure? Well God always has a crazy way of showing up when you're not looking.  And on the 4th of July this past summer, while we were hosting 30 family members and had just sit down to eat, we had a knock on our door.  A cabin neighbor (9 cabins up the road) who we had never met, asked Ryan if he could mow her unruly lawn that hadn't been mowed in years.  Of course Ryan said yes, just give me a day or two:) and went up to check out the lot with her to know where it was.  We found out that her husband had passed away 5 years ago, and she hadn't been back much since, which is the reason we had never met her.  That conversation also led into an opportunity to purchase her lake lot, on our beloved Dunn's Lake, and create something of our own!  We sat on this for a day wondering if this would be a good option for us and weighed the pros and cons of it...since we had a long list of musts in any property we purchased.

PROS

* Large beautiful lot

* Mature trees

* Quiet serene lake

* One a dead end road

* Literally a 5 minute walk from our cabin so it's close to home

* Beautiful views

* We can create something amazing from the ground up

* We can make it livable year round

CONS

* Building from the scratch up (although thats a pro as well, it can be more overwhelming)

* Steeper bank to the water than we'd like

* Dunn's Lake isn't the cleanest lake

That's about it.  The pros way outweighed the cons, and we knew we had to jump on it!  We closed on the lot at end of August and haven't said anything yet because we had 5 roofs that needed to be done and a fall House on a Hill sale that came in there and have literally no time to even work over there.  We probably won't start building anything until the spring which means I have all winter to figure out the perfect little cabin in the woods and can't wait to share with you all my vision and goals for this sweet place that we hope to be able to offer to all of you soon!

There is one little building on the lot that I am keeping, and I can't wait to show you!

The soon to be bunkhouse

This little "shed" was used as a big party room for the former owners.  They chugged it full with an old school large screen tv, poker table, and games.  I immediately fell in love with the modern design of it and knew we had to keep it.  On top of that, it's super close to the lake, which is a huge bonus since building regulations now have you building farther back unless a building is already there.  I plan to transform this into the coolest bunkhouse/movie room/hangout spot and already and scheming up ideas!

The ceilings are vaulted and already have tongue and groove and beams up.   The rest of it might be a complete redo, down to the 2x4's, but the ceiling is staying and it's going to be amazing!

So welcome to our next adventure, we can't wait to take you along with us every step of the way, and hopefully host many of you soon!  How cool is that!  We can even walk down and meet you since it will be so very close to our little happy place!

Now to find someone that wants a 64' purple and yellow trailer.....if you know someone, let me know:)
