STEEL SHED MAKEOVER

Our Steel Shed Makeover

This little steel shed has come a long way since we first bought the cabin 5 years ago.  And since it was a shed we didn't want to spend much money on updating it.  I updated in stages and this past week I finally was able to finish it to the point of where it looks like a brand new garage and not an old steel shed.  So let's take a look to see how it started...

Before

The cabin, the boat house, the deck, and basically all of the lawn furniture were this beautiful green when we bought the place!  The first year I painted the cabin the color "toasted poppyseed" by kilz brand paint in a flat finish and so then I also painted over the green to match.

I also found these awesome rectangle magnets that made the garage door look like it has windows for a major deal!  I also ordered these magnetic hinges and handles that are only $11! so for $43 it made the garage door look brand new! You can see in this photo that the cabin still had a white peak on the roofline that I eventually painted the same dark toasted poppyseed because it still looked a little too dated for me.  I always meant to do the same to the garage but I just never got around to it.  This week I finally pulled out my favorite paint sprayer and it took me all of 30 minutes to spray both sides.  It always makes me wonder why I wait so long to finish some of these things!  the after makes me oh so happy:)

I use this little sprayer all the time.  It only holds a quart of paint, but it goes further than you'd think.  I filled it up about 3 times to do the garage, and I always add about 1/3 cup water into the container to thing the paint a bit so it sprays better, but it's saved me on so many projects.  I also love that it comes with different size tips so you can spray stain through it as well.  I used this for the back of the deck on the mancave to spray the horizontal boards with stain and it was a game-changer!

Ta Da, The After!

I can't believe how much painting the peek helped to update this garage.  It now looks like a new garage and not an old tin shed!  All for the price of a gallon of paint!

You can also see that I talked Ryan into adding some new lighting for me!  I'm so in love with it, let me share a little more about it below...

The Lighting

Since the shed is so dark, I knew that I wanted the lighting to pop.  I found this updated version of a traditional farmhouse gooseneck in high gloss white and instantly knew it was the one!  I also loved that these are dusk to dawn lights, meaning there is no light switch for them, they have a photo sensor that detects light and come on when it starts to get dark and stays on until the sun comes up.  I feel like it adds an extra layer of security for our cabin and also, I always love pulling up to a residence with the lights on to greet us:)

Isn't that upslope neck so pretty! I had ordered some of these faux topiaries for my house this year since I hate watering tons of potted plants!  I loved them so much I got a set for out here as well and they are the perfect pop of green and detail that this garage needed.  The best part about them is that they are no maintenance, a huge win since we aren't always at the cabin to water plants.   I added all of the links for this makeover below!

Let's be real though, would you have guessed those windows are magnets?  GENIUS!

The Backside

I am loving how the sign really pops on the back now, and I talked Ryan into adding another dusk to dawn light that lights up our sign all night long.  You can now even see it from the lake!

I still need to give this white trim a fresh coat of paint, it started to sprinkle as I was finishing up and didn't want to chance it, but this little shed makeover cost a little over $500 and made such a huge impact!  Never underestimate the power of paint!
