It's time to start making God and our faith a priority to live boldly in a dark world.

5 years ago I made a new years resolution.  I never make new years resolutions, because I can never seem to keep this one.  But this one was different.  It was more like a resolution to Jesus.  I made a promise to make Him a priority in my life and read the Bible through in a year to get to know Him better.  I was committed, I was determined, and I asked you guys to join in with me.  And guess what?  With accountability from all of you, knowing we were doing this together, I did it!  And I saw for the first time at the age of 36 that God is so loving and not just scary.  He is so merciful and not just to be feared.  He is so patient and kind, and desires us to know Him, and my outlook on who God is totally and completely shifted.  Because so many of us spend time in the New Testament and focus only on Jesus that we miss out on the greatest love of all, the one of a Father who gave up his only son because he so desired to spend eternity with US!

It was life changing, so much so that I did it again, and again, and again!  I just finished my last read through the Bible in June and it got me through some of my hardest times.  It was the peace I needed in an uncertain world, it was the joy I needed to have when everything looked dark, and it was the ultimate truth when I didn't know what to believe.  It was and is my rock and my foundation, something you can't find anywhere else.  When I finished in June I told myself I am going to take  a little break.  I wanted time to study other parts of the Bible. I wanted to read other books about the Bible.  And although I did that a bit, I realized how much I need to have a habit and a pattern to be in the Word everyday.  I missed it.  I felt myself losing momentum and I felt myself not being as intentional and bold in my faith.  And it was a wake up call.

It made me think of the parable of the 10 virgins.  5 of them were ready with oil in their lamps waiting for the bridegroom and 5 of them had lamps, but the oil was gone.  And by the time they went to fill them and come back they missed the party.  They were too late.  We don't know the day or the hour Jesus will return.  We do know when our last day on this earth will be. Everything can change in a second, and all we know is we need to be ready at any moment to meet our Lord and Savior.  To have confidence that our lamps are full.  To know for certainty where we go when we will die.

So many of us think we have more time.  We will get serious about it ONE day.  When we are less busy, when we face serious struggles, when we need God.  Why is it so hard to commit 15 minutes a day to prioritizing being in the Word when we can spend hours scrolling.  It's because it's the last thing the enemy wants us to do.  He wants us to think we don't have the time.  He wants us to be distracted and think other things are more important.  And the reality is, your kids seeing you in the Word, your family seeing the shift in you as you learn more about God, your faith growing stronger as God shows up because you are seeking Him, that is what scares the enemy.  And thats exactly what we need to prioritze.

So I'm encouraging you to JOIN US, as we start reading through the Bible chronologically in one year.  It's so much easier to do it with community and accountability.  And I will try to show up in stories on my IG page (@proverbsthirtyonegirl) to share a little bit more behind the verses and chapters we are reading to help those who are new in their faith.  I also encourage you to maybe get THIS BIBLE.  It is not only beautiful, but it's also a study Bible.  So underneath the verses it gives historical context as to what is happening and also more insight to help you understand.

Last year I also wrote a blog post of my kids favorite Bibles.  It's never too early to get them started on learning the stories of the Bibles and teaching them who God is.  And as they see you in your Bible it's a great time for them to pick their Bibles up as well!

Bibles for the Family

And as much as I want to help you better understand the Bible, there will be questions you have, and things you don't understand.  That's okay.  The first thing you should do as you open your Bible is pray to God to give you understanding and help you see what He wants you to see.  The coolest thing about the Bible is that it is the living, breathing Word of God.  Which means that it comes alive as you read it and God uses it to speak to you!  Every year I read the Bible through I'm amazed at what stands out and how God reveals Himself in a new way.  It's also amazing that so many times I read exactly what I need to hear for that day! But, there are also so many amazing resources to help you along the way.  I'm listing some below...

I can't wait to start this journey with you!  So invite a friend, your neighbor, a family member, and lets all be intentional about making God a priority in our lives, in our families, and in our communities!  Shining light in the darkness is the most powerful way to overcome evil and God will use it in a mighty way!

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
