THE LIVING ROOM

The hardest part about this space was how incredibly long this room is. It was already long, but then we made it even longer by knocking out the wall to fit a dining room as well.  I didn’t want it to feel so long, I wanted it to feel like separate spaces, which can be hard to do in an open concept. I achieved the look by placing the dining room in the middle and adding different rugs to separate the spaces.

and another..

We added the new door which let in a lot more light on the left, and also took out the little ceiling area and put in an arch to open it up a bit more.

It's fun to have the windows for reference since those didn't change.  We also added this faux wood beam to help break up the space.  It's a 6x6 old beam from a barn that we put in purely for aesthetics and I love it!  I painted all of the trim in the color Revere Pewter from Benjamin Moore and also spray painted the old vinyl windows black which made them look brand new!  For only $5/window.  You can find that tutorial HERE.  I spray painted them over 2 years ago now and they've held up great!

The Oaks final outdoor reveal
By Allie Lundeen August 14, 2025
I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
