The Boys Room Makeover

This whole project started with getting new carpet as the life span of the current carpets was almost times up! It kind of cannonballed into a few more things, but it needed it! The boys are getting older and they no longer need a lot of room on the floor to play they need more desk space for creating/school work etc etc...

* Stay tuned for part 2 reveal of this room soon!!

For today the sleeping area reveal!

Let's take a quick look as a reminder what this room use to look like shall we...

Before

I loved the look of this room! But as the boys get older it was time for some refreshing and making it "big boy" like.

If you want more to read more of the history of this room, yes it use to be the Master bedroom! So, you can read all about the boys old room look here. And then when it was the Master Bedroom here

Here is the vision in my head about what I wanted their room to look like now. Older and still boy like... Do we think my vision came to life?!

After

Fresh coat of paint on the walls, new carpet and some new bedding + accessories! Now we have an older boy room!!!

There are often many questions on that darker wall. The color is called Toasted Poppyseed in a flat finish by Kilz Brand. One of my favorite colors still after having it painted this color for almost 5 years! Our Cabin is the same exact color too!

The flag on the wall is from an amazing company called Dear Mushka, I'll share the link here for you to check out their online shop with so many amazing biblical meaning items and gifts!

The new carpet that we got is from Home Depot. Style name is called Boxton and the color of it is called Stonewashed. I went between 2 different colors; I am happy I went with the cooler ton...

I was a tad nervous about the rug being too big and overpowering most of the carpet, but it really ended up being the perfect size.

I am in love with this rub! I saw a friend on Instagram share it and immediately fell in love for the boy's room! The quality is great. It's thinner but plush and cozy. The size I got is a 9x12.

This end of the house gets a little chilly so layers on layers for bedding was the answer.  I'm such a sucker for bedding anway and have been loving the check print and mixing styles and designs.

The Beige Gingham Flannel sheets were a big hit for Tate and Beckett! They crawled into bed and were so surprised with how comfy and WARM they were. Flannel sheets are a total must during the winters in the Midwest.

I went with the dark gray duvet cover to help tie in the dark accent wall.

This quilt had my heart as soon as I came across it on Amazon. It is so super soft, and the small little cream detail adds the perfect touch to pull in the brown from the check bedding!

Before I had even completed the look, I had envisioned in my head I stumbled upon these mid-century patted benches. They kind of speak for themselves if we are being honest here! They tie in with the "big boy" theme so well all while still keeping it well pulled together. I loved the wood tones and the price point is amazing for a high end look.

Shop the Room

I can't wait to work on part 2 and show you how we are going to semi-DIY some boys desks on the other side of this room! Stay tuned:)

The Oaks final outdoor reveal

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
