MAN CAVE INSPIRATION — RUSTIC INDUSTRIAL

allie • November 11, 2014

So my goal with this man cave was to give Ryan a very masculine “rustic” look, instead of a dead animal log cabin feel:)  He has a log cabin waaaaaaayyy up north that is darling and I love the feel, but I wanted this to be something different.   A little more refined maybe.  And a tiche more “trendy.”  Since rustic, wood and antlers is so popular right now, I’m super excited to incorporate Ry’s animals and give him a super cozy, rustic, manly place that he can kick back in and watch football or escape for some quiet time!

Here’s where we are at so far.

We are using some of the old barn wood for the window wall and to plank the fireplace.  It will look something like this…

We have big rustic beams in there already like this…

I’m so in love with them I want them in my house! I can’t wait to show you:)

We are going to do dark gray trim like this..

and a possible board and batten wall like that as well.

And then the fun stuff….Ry got a big leather sectional, and we are going to warm it up with some cozy throws and pillows and possibly a cowhide rug like this…

Oh, and what’s a man cave without some antlers.  I can do SOME :)

Tastefully.

So my anniversary present to the hubs??
antlers

Yep.  An antler chandelier.  Never thought I’d be gifting that:)

Happy Anniversary babe!!

Well, I’m off to set up the barn and man cave for our last day of the Whimsy sale.  And then we pack it up for the year.  You can get a better look of where the man cave is at now, and the progess that Ry made.

The Oaks final outdoor reveal
By Allie Lundeen August 14, 2025
I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
