HERE WE GO AGAIN!

We just got ourselves a fixer upper cabin!!

And I know, I know, I can just hear people saying, wait what?!?  Aren't they BUILDING a cabin...and have an extra lot?!? Don't they have enough on their plates, why would you want another one?  And don't worry, those are ALL the same thoughts we have had as well:) But remember when we went to the Life Surge conference this summer?  Well something really clicked for us and we decided to get out of our comfort zone, take some risks, and invest in ourselves.  Yes, it's scary, yes it could backfire, but after weighing all of the pros and cons we just COULDN'T pass this little cutie up!

This cabin is actually on the other side of our neighbors house that we painted, so only 2 spots down from our cabin.  It was a sweet elderly couple that lived here, the wife died and the husband moved out over a year ago.  We met with his son and he was excited about us giving it some love, knowing his mom would love that.  When we first looked at it we thought it would be the perfect flip cabin.  We could put our sweat equity into, make it cute, and make a profit on it.  But we also didn't want to pay crazy taxes on it selling it to early, so as we thought about we we decided we'll rent it out first and see how that goes.  And we are actually super excited to have a trial run on a rental in our area!  And my last little tiny thought in the back of my head as we were walking through it the last time was this would be the cutest little house for Momma Sue someday;)   I don't know if she'll ever move to Minnesota, but I always want her to know she is welcome and that there might even be the perfect spot for her (once we are done with it) IF she ever decides to:)  So now that you know the plan, lets take a little look inside!

When you walk through the front door you come into this porch.  It's amazing how much it mimcs our cabin porch and honestly, as it is, it's not super functional. It has some of the best views in the cabin and is so closed off!  I can't wait to open it up, redo the floors, make the windows BLACK! Paint the the walls and ceiling and add some chunky beams!! Ahh!! Can you tell I'm a bit excited?!?  There will be a huge difference with a minimal budget and I can't wait!

So this is the little entry from the porch to the living room.  Right now there is a wood fireplace that is on a weird slanted wall. We will rip that out, add a gas fireplace further to the right, and then open that door way up to at least twice the size and I'm hoping with an ARCH!  Swoon.  This one is going to be a stunner.  I love small spaces because a few small details add up to MAJOR impact!

And here's the little tiny kitchen off the living room.  This will be a complete gut.  But it's so small it won't take much to put it all back together!  And we'll get rid of the peninsula and add a beautiful island that will be the main focus.  Good thing I just refreshed my tiling skills cause that backsplash is going to come out too!

There are two bedrooms at the back and this one smaller bathroom.  I told you it was small:)  I can't wait to take you on a video tour soon, but first we have been working on the exterior to try to button some things up before winter comes in MN!

And the outside needs a lot of love:)  This is just one little area, and yes, there is a sidewalk hiding under that jungle somewhere in there.  It's been untouched for a couple of years and in desperate need of some TLC.  But thankfully we are good at that!

So while Ryan works on all of the exterior of the new build, I'm going to start tackling, demoing, and putting this little cutie back together!  I am so beyond excited to get back to my roots with this one.  I'm talking DIY on a budget with beautiful design and more daring choices since its not my home!  Wohoo! So make sure you're tuning into stories because stuff needs to happen every day over here.  We are hoping to get her up and running ASAP, and you'll be the first to hear about it!!

The Oaks final outdoor reveal
By Allie Lundeen August 14, 2025
I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
