GIVING THE GIFT OF HOPE THIS SEASON!

allie • November 25, 2020

I’m honored to partner with a wonderful organization and share how you can join me in helping to give love and hope around the world in a tangible way through Compassion

As you you probably know, I am beyond passionate about helping children – especially children that have no voice, few or no advocates, living in poverty.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” Proverbs 31:8, NIV

Helping children has always been a passion for me, and the more I’ve learned about sex trafficking and abuse of children, I’ve felt even more responsible for helping to inform and encourage people to help fight for our children.

Ryan and I sponsor a child through Compassion. Compassion serves and empowers villages around the world to help free children from the cycle of poverty and shares God’s love in all aspects of their mission.

“Compassion strives to protect children from all forms of abuse”

Compassion holds the same values to protect children and help enrich their lives  by providing supplies, education, learning God’s word and seeing His love through their local churches. Compassion shares more information about how, exactly, they’re committed and what they do to ensure children are protected in their programs.

I wanted to share some information on children in poverty and found some statistics. First, 1 billion less people live on extreme poverty than 25 years ago ( World Bank (2018), Poverty and Shared Prosperity 2018: Piecing Together the Poverty Puzzle. Washington, DC: World Bank. (Fact 1,2))

This was so good to read, because it shows people ARE making an impact and organizations like Compassion are changing lives. 1 in 3 children worldwide are living in poverty, (1 “Child Poverty.” UNICEF, Feb. 2020,  www.unicef.org/social- policy/child-poverty ) at or less than $1.90 day to survive. Children living in extreme poverty are among the most vulnerable in the world to abuse.

You can choose to sponsor a girl or a boy and have the option to choose the country or age of the child that you feel led to help. It’s such a beautiful gift to see the child and know where and to whom you’re funds are directed.

Your child is even able to receive letters from you – via Compassion- and able to send you letters. This is such an awesome opportunity to build a relationship and share the love of Jesus with the child you sponsor.

The fact that Compassion utilizes a holistic approach to child development, in the name of Jesus, aligns with my mission. They focus on all needs of each child – spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and economic needs.

I partnered with Compassion to help take up this cause and give a voice and hope to these sweet children around the world.

As we enter into the time of gift giving and gathering with loved ones, my hope is to encourage you to examine your heart. Are you feeling led to help children in this way? If so what are you doing to make that happen? It could look like asking for this as a gift in your name instead of a gift you likely won’t remember next year. Or, a gift in honor of a loved one who has passed away. You can search by birthday and find a child who shares the same birthday as your loved one.

Just as I am with encouraging you all with DIY on your homes, I want to inspire you to take action if you feel like you could do more to help children living in compromised situations.

Together we can change lives and change the world in Jesus’ name. mission. Please read more here about how you can change the life of a child and consider joining this

Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. — Isaiah 1:17, NIV

The Oaks final outdoor reveal
By Allie Lundeen August 14, 2025
I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
