Fall Tour - The Great Room

Allie Lundeen • September 10, 2022

The weather is dropping, the days are growing shorter, and whether I want to admit it or not, summer is behind us.

Which means that with the change of seasons, the decor changes too.  One thing that I've really focused on the past few years is investing in beautiful neutral pieces.  I obviously love a neutral home, yet don't want to sacrifice coziness because of it, so during the cooler months I pull out all the green and add in all the texture, fluff, warm earthy colors, and cozy that I can!

I used to decorate with mostly pumpkins when fall came (white ones of course:) But now I find myself so drawn to all the textures of the beautiful faux florals that are out now!  These muted white florals are from Michaels and add so much, even without color!

I always love adding in pampas grasses.  They have such a range of color and the texture is so cozy and welcoming.  It brings nature inside, which is exactly what I want.  I found this pack on Amazon and you get enough in it do create quite a few arrangements!

I'm also in love with these new dried palm leaves I got this year.  One a few makes a big statement and they are unlike anything else!

The last faux floral I used were these burgundy stems.  They are so gorgeous, and I'm surprised how much I love a pop of the deep jewel tones in them! I used 2 stems for this vase (discontinued), and it looks like they are out of stock at the moment, but you can sign up to be notified when they come back!  Otherwise, these or these are awesome replacements!

The other change I love to make is to add in some different throw blankets and pillows.  Since I decorate with neutral anyway, it doesn't take much to add in a touch of fall.  This year I added in this fun plaid throw blanket on the back of the couch that made it so fallish and cozy with the earthy colors, and two pillows from the new Target Studio Mcgee line that add in a bit of color as well.  The rest of the pillows stayed the same! Another great way to add some fall tones is by switching up the art on my frametv.  I found this digital download for $1.25 and love it so much!

I took out the green tree I had in this wooden pot and put in a cozy cable knit blanket I had gotten last year.  I had this fuzzy pumpkin from last year as well but found a similar one here!

The Oaks final outdoor reveal

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
