Fall Tablescape

Gathering around the table....

Growing up my mom always made every season special.  I still remember coming home from college for the first time during the fall and my mom had cornstalks with lights in them to greet me as I got out of the car.  The candle inside was burning and a hot pot of chili was on the stove.  I was home.  I don't know if I have ever told her how much that memory has meant to me over the years and how it truly has shaped the way I create a home for my family.

Decorating has always been something I've loved to do!  Creating a beautiful place not only for me but also for my family.  There have been times that I've struggled with that from a Christian perspective.  Am I being worldly, is my heart set on the things of this world.  But every time I have prayed about it, Jesus so sweetly reminds me that He is the one that made beauty.  That He himself gifted people with the most amazing talents to make a beautiful earthly temple for Him. He gives us gifts and talents, and it's how we use them that honors and glorifies Him.  I love to use my gifting to create a beautiful environment for my family.  One that helps make those most precious memories that they will remember long after the season is over.

Dried Wheat was the item I went with for this year's place setting. And yes, I love it! The perfect muted tone. Added to the side, top or above the dishes to bring a subtle fall feel.

Making a beautiful table makes dinners around it that much more special.  If we have neglected the family meal for a while, Beckett always asks, "Can we eat as a family tonight?"  And when he asks it's always the best reminder that the most important work truly is within the 4 walls of our home.  Being intentional on gathering around the table for fellowship creates security, connection, and love.

The Dish Setting. I fell in love with this high-quality durable stoneware in this gorgeous neutral tone. It has an exposed clay detail to it that makes it special in its own way.

Special occasions call for special things.  And sitting down to a meal of Thanksgiving, it's so fun to find your spot with a name marker.  I used these little white pumpkins that I found in the Target dollar spot as name markers.  I wrote on them with a regular black marker so you can easily wash it off and use it for a different name.

I don't have the exact same ones to share but here are a similar ones I've found.

We don't always set the table this fancy for every meal, but It's amazing how when a holiday or special occasion comes, they ask if we are bringing out the special items.  Each season has special ones and is meaningful in their own way.  They look forward to not only eating a meal but having a family experience that usually includes a lot of laughter and always a lot of chatting.

These Tremont Glasses. tie in the deeper color. I love that this glass looks very similar to a basic dining glass but has a twist to it with the color and the ombre affect.

The pop of shiny black silverware is so fun to add a bit of a glossy texture to the very muted tones going on at this table.

According to a Harvard study, families that regularly eat meals together are associated with lower rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, tobacco use, and early teenage pregnancy, and higher rates of resilience and higher self-esteem.  It's almost as if the Lord knew what He was talking about when He commanded us to break bread together.  Fellowship, especially done within the 4 walls of our home, is so very powerful and most definitely needed.  I hope this encourages you to be intentional within your family, create a place of beauty where you can make memories and connect with those you love!

The Oaks final outdoor reveal

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
