EXTERIOR CHRISTMAS

Christmas On the Exterior

In my option the front step and front patio area is one of the prettiest spots during the holiday season on our whole property, dare I say maybe even inside too. The picture below is exactly how it feels. Bright, snowy and simple. Adding just a couple garlands and a couple trees is all it takes to make this porch feel like the true wonderland it is.

I snagged this year's real cedar garland from Costco. It is a 20' strand and I used Christmas light hangers to hang them up, they work super slick actually! My garlands tend to always last until at least February which is a long time and I count that as a big score!

A secret of mine is for Christmas exterior decorating, go to your nearest woods or trees on your property and find some pine branches or fallen birch sticks. They make for cheap decorations and are the perfect touches!

I know they sell those type of things at craft stores as well if you don't have access to a nearby foliage.

Here is another way to decorate your front doorway area, especially if you like a little bit more color.

Last year when Better Homes and Gardens came to our house. Yes, that is right total 'eeekkk!!" moment. Such an honor to be featured on the cover of their Farmhouse Christmas! A total dream come true!

I used a different and one of my all-time favorite garlands from Purple Rose Home. I loved it so much it made its way into the house this year...

Simple details. The way I am leaning more and more toward as years go on = Simplicity.

Onto the other side of the deck below.

I pulled together a roundup of mini 3ft-5ft Christmas trees. Similar to the ones I have out here. The ones I have are an Ikea find and are currently sold out but sharing ones I've had my eyes on as well. So, if you are in the market for cute mini trees check them out!

Linked at the end of the blog as well.

For all exterior lighting, go to. my Exterior Lighting Blog post. I have every link and answers to all of your questions you may have on there!

Even the fresh snow that fell this morning on the firewood makes it look like it was there for prop, nope the fresh fluffy snow just makes everything pretty!

The Oaks final outdoor reveal

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
