CHERISH - WEEK 2

Allie Lundeen • March 24, 2023

We have officially read the first 2 chapters of our "Cherish" book and it started out with a bang!

Ryan and I put together another YouTube video video with an overview of Chapters 1 & 2 and what stood out to us the most.  I believe it really is powerful to watch these as a couple, especially for men.  Women have an easy time chatting about all things, but sometimes it's helpful for men to hear from another man.  And I'm so grateful Ryan is taking this as seriously as he is and really challenging other men to step up not only in marriage, but ultimately in their relationships with the Lord as that is where all other relationships stem from.

WATCH WEEK 2 HERE!

Chapter 1

I loved that chapter 1 talked all about the definition of "cherishing" and how that is different from loving.  To cherish is to present in a good light, to uphold something, to present something in the best light possible.  And for many of us this doesn't come naturally.  But the best part is that to cherish is not an emotion.  It's an action.  So even if you feel like all love is lost in your marriage and it's hopeless, you can put into practice these ways to cherish and rekindle that love that you had on the day you married your spouse!

Chapter 2

Moving onto chapter 2 I loved how practical it was.  The comparison game is a trap 100% of the time. It is NEVER beneficial.  It NEVER grows a marriage, it only cuts it down.  So to cut off the comparison game before it enters your mind is the most beneficial.  Our goal is how to take our "Adam" and our "Eve" and make them the BEST version of themselves!  How to present them in a light that is cherishing them. How to see them as the only woman in the world!  And then, little by little, these acts of cherishing your spouse will turn into emotions of feelings of why you first picked them.  And our goal is to live each day like its our wedding day:)

The Challenge!

Each week we want to give you a challenge with some accountability since we will be doing it as well!  Last week was to pray together as a couple!  This week is to find one attribute you LOVE about your spouse that you can verbally tell them so that they feel like the only woman/man in the world!  Words of affirmation are so powerful!

Also something we learned this week, try to do it earlier in the day:)  It not only starts your day off well and thinking about how you can help your spouse, but sometimes if you wait to long you feel like you've gotta say something to check it off the list and it's not as genuine.  Ps, you can also leave your word in a little note or text throughout the day.  I guarantee it will bring a smile to your spouse knowing they are thinking of you!

We are praying alongside you this week as we continue to make our marriages the best they can be!

I pulled off the biggest surprise I've ever done... I can't believe it!! So a little back story - 17 years ago Ryan sold his prized possession, his 1991 Mazda Miata, to help fund a much needed mini van for our baby on the way. After I got pregnant I quit my job and we went from 2 incomes down to 1 income. We knew that a 2 person convertible just wasn't practical and that the finances could be used in a better way. So we sold it... Fast forward 17 years and it all comes back full circle. I put my 17 year old son Tate on the task of finding us a Miata that looked just like dads, and he blew it out of the water. He found the perfect car on Facebook Marketplace In great condition! He drove almost 3 hours to pick it up with a buddy and pulled off the best surprise ever!!! Also to note Tate has never driven through the Twin Cities or Driven a stick shift on any road besides a gravel one close to the cabin. BUT he was confident and crushed the challenge!! We stored it for the night and gave it to him the next day! I think Ryan's reaction says it all (watch the mini vlog below!) Our "19th" anniversary isn't until November but what fun is a convertible if you can't drive it in the summer, so we gave it to him early and are so happy we did! *make sure to read until the end for a good laugh ;)
